Robust design

Position in the degree programme:

Compulsory elective

Workload:

5 LP / 4 SWS

Type of proof:

Written term paper

Learning outcomes / competences:

The students are able to

  • identify important parameters and set up complex simulation models with different tools
  • be able to perform optimisation of complex structures
  • carry out optimisation with regard to topology, including for non-linear applications
  • derive recommendations for the design process by applying a sensitivity study
  • optimise the essential parameters in order to achieve a functionally and cost-efficient design
  • apply methods to achieve robust behaviour of technical products depending on function-determining parameters via sensitivity studies and to design/optimise the parameters

Contents:

  • Modelling of technical systems and transfer to finite element and/or MKS software systems
  • Carrying out sensitivity analyses,
  • Evaluating the calculations and making recommendations to the design department
  • Carrying out robustness evaluations and optimisations
